Symester System at Delhi University - mindless copying of rejected US system.

The HRD Minister Mr Kapil Sibal's, quite known for his slavish following of US, son who had done his 2 year LLB and 9 months LLM from American University under Symester System, was facing problems in getting enrolled as Advocate with Bar Council of India. This is the background of Mr Sibal's mindless pushing of Symester System in Indian Universities, especially at University of Delhi. He manipulated things at High Court. It is strange that views of teachers who have to teach and have experience was totally ignored.
Those who compare JNU and Jamia to Delhi University just forget that JNU has atotal strength of nearly 5000 students, a strength equal to the average of just two of nearly 72 colleges of DU. It is naive to expect system working well at JNU to be valid for Delhi University also.
Let us now know how does the examination system in American Universities work. In America, mostly there is nothing called as external examinations. The very same professor who teaches the student evaluates the examination performance. Usually a student has to appear in two major examinations- final and mid-term. As the name suggests, mid-term examinations are held half way through the course. The final examinations are given at the end of the course/semester. Both the examinations are usually written. The final examinations last from 2-3 hours while mid-term examinations last for an hour only.
At Delhi University which has a strength of more than 1.5 lakh and twice the number in Open School category this sort of thing is simply not possible.
Therefore, looking objectively, it is clear that the Symester System should be rejected at DU.
